Each year, at the Canadian Conference on Global Health, we come together to honour and celebrate the remarkable contributions made by individuals within our global health community. These prestigious awards serve as a testament to the unwavering commitment and exceptional achievements of a select few. Through their outstanding efforts, they inspire and drive positive change in the field of global health.

Lifetime Achievement Award

This award recognizes CAGH members who have made substantial contributions to the field of global health throughout their careers. Lifetime Achievement Award recipients are presented with a plaque and free registration to next year’s Canadian Conference on Global Health. They also receive a free lifetime membership to the CAGH.

Award criteria and nomination process

Vic Neufeld Mentorship Award in Global Health

This award honours Dr. Vic Neufeld, Professor Emeritus in the Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University and the founding national coordinator of the Canadian Coalition for Global Health Research, which merged with the Canadian Society for International Health to create the Canadian Association for Global Health.

This award celebrates those who have provided outstanding mentorship to global health students and early-career professionals. It recognizes the critical role mentors play in shaping and fostering the next generation of global health leaders, who are instrumental in driving positive change and advancement in the field.

Vic Neufeld Mentorship Award recipients are presented with a plaque and free registration to next year’s Canadian Conference on Global Health.

Award criteria and nomination process

Elizabeth & Donald Hillman Award

The Hillman Award was created in 2001 to honour Drs. Elizabeth and Donald Hillman’s commitments to students, and their participation in global health. Dr. Elizabeth (Liz) Hillman and Dr. Donald Hillman were dedicated Canadian pediatricians who devoted their lives to providing medical care and improving medical education for mothers and children across multiple continents, including underserved regions.

The award is presented to the student who delivers the most outstanding poster presentation at the annual Canadian Conference on Global Health. As a token of appreciation, the winner is awarded a certificate and a prize of $250, recognizing their remarkable achievement and encouraging their ongoing contributions to global health.
