Steffanie Strathdee is Associate Dean of Global Health Sciences and Harold Simon Professor at UC San Diego, and adjunct professor at Johns Hopkins and Simon Fraser Universities. She is an HIV researcher with over 600 publications on HIV prevention globally. She is known for evaluation of needle exchange programs and behavioral interventions, and re-introducing phage therapy as a treatment for antibiotic resistant bacterial infections. Steffanie has conducted research in Canada, US, Mexico, Brazil, Pakistan, India, Tajikistan, Kenya and South Africa.  She was listed by MacLean’s Magazine as one of 100 Canadians to Watch (1997), The Financial Post as One of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 (1997), and by TIME magazine as one of 50 Most Influential People in Health Care (2018).  She is author of The Perfect Predator: A Scientist’s Race to Save Her Husband from a Deadly Superbug (Hachette, Spring 2019).
