Dr. Sameera Hussain is a visionary policy leader working to advance strategic priorities at the Public Health Agency of Canada. Her work is rooted in science and the principles of health equity. She maintains an active research agenda around the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), determinants of health, and whole-of-government approaches to health and wellbeing. She is focused on transformation in the post-COVID19 context and using systems leadership for effective policy-making.

She is an alumna of the inaugural cohort of the Health System Impact Fellowship program at the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, in a cross-appointment at the University of Ottawa and the Canadian Society for International Health. She was involved with consultations that led to the formulation of the SDGs.

Sameera serves on the editorial board of BMC’s Globalization and Health Journal. She holds a doctorate in Public Health from the University of Queensland (Australia), an MSc in Development Studies from North South University (Bangladesh), and a BA from Queen's University (Canada).
