About

Katherine Hay leads the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation's Gender Equality programming across a range of countries and initiatives. She also leads the Gender COVID workstream at the Foundation. Prior to joining the Gender Equality team, she lead evaluations of the large scale public health programs in India. She brought a strong gender and intersectionality lens to that work - exploring who was being left behind in health services and programming, factors such as gender based violence and health, and more empowering and inclusive health systems. Katherine worked previously at the International Development Research Centre, where she worked on women's groups, and global equity and health. Recent publications include work on gender and health systems, intimate partner violence, and women's groups.
