Canada’s role: 2030 National Agenda and Factors Influencing Federal Uptake of SDGs

Date: November 25 – 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm EST

Location: Streamed live at the CCGH 2021 (Virtual)

In 2015, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were ratified by member countries (including Canada).  They provide a global framework for action for people, the planet, prosperity, peace, and partnership, and an explicit focus on “leaving no one behind”. When the SDGs were first ratified, several challenges, including enhanced intersectoral and coordinated leadership efforts, were identified as gaps in furthering this ambitious agenda. This Dialogue will feature presentations by Olivier Bullion (SDG Unit, Government of Canada) on Canada’s Agenda 2030 National Strategy: the federal contribution, as well as Erica Di Ruggiero and Joslyn Trowbridge (Dalla Lana School of Public Health) who will share preliminary research findings from a research project investigating the global, social, political and economic factors influencing the federal uptake of SDGs in Canada. A facilitated dialogue led by Sameera Hussain will follow the presentations.

This session was moderated by Dr. Sameera Hussain, Public Health Agency of Canada advancing strategic priorities for post-COVID-19 recovery; Adjunct Professor at the University of Ottawa’s School of Epidemiology and Public Health, and featured the following speakers:

  • Olivier Bullion, Director, Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Unit, Government of Canada
