Community Registration Scholarships

Community involvement is a hallmark of health research. In recognition of this important role and thanks to sponsors’ generous support, CAGH will be offering up Community Registration Scholarships for virtual or in-person attendance to CCGH 2023.

Community Participation at CCGH 2023  

Community Registration Scholarships are provided by the Canadian Alliance in HIV-HCV Knowledge to Action, funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada's Community Action Fund. These scholarships are intended to encourage the participation of people with lived experience and support representation from disadvantaged and under-represented communities, as well as people working in Community-Based Organizations whose work is focused on supporting these communities.  

Key populations, as identified by PHAC through the Community Action Fund, include the following populations: 

  • Living with HIV or Hepatitis C 
  • Gay, bisexual men and other men who have sex with men
  • People who use drugs
  • First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples
  • Racialized people and migrants, particularly from regions with high HIV or hepatitis C prevalence
  • Sex workers and their clients
  • People living in or recently released from correctional facilities
  • Two Spirit, transgender and non-binary people

In-Person Community Registration Scholarship recipients will receive complimentary Conference registration. All other costs (travel, accommodation, technology, child care, etc.) involved with the recipient’s participation at CCGH 2023 will not be covered.  Virtual Community Registration Scholarship recipients will receive complimentary Conference registration. Please note that only the recipients of a Community Registration Scholarship will be offered free registration to the Conference; all other Community members will be required to pay the regular conference rate.

Eligibility  

  • Applicants must be a Canadian citizen or resident of Canada  
  • Living, working* or volunteering* with one of the previously listed target communities. Preference will be given to those who have lived experience.  

Evaluation Criteria  

The priority areas for adjudication are:  

  • Demonstration that the applicant has a strong connection to their affiliated community in Canada: those with lived experience and/or those working or volunteering in any field related to the above populations (preference will be given to those with lived experience);  
  • Demonstration that the applicant can show tangible benefits from attending the conference and will share the knowledge gained with a larger at-risk community or organization after the meeting

Applicants will be notified about the status of their application the week of October 2.

Confidentiality  

All information on this application form is treated as confidential and is protected. The information provided will be used for the sole purpose of administering the Community Registration Scholarship program.  

Completed applications will be received and processed by CAGH staff. The Community Registration Scholarship Selection Committee will receive and review copies of applications through a blinded review process that removes the names and identifying information from the application.  

Personal information is collected and used to select applicants. Applications that are not accepted will be deleted from the application database within 30 days of the Conference. Approved applications will be retained on file in the CAGH Office in accordance with existing laws and regulations for this purpose.
