Beth Jackson is a Manager and Senior Scientific Advisor in the Centre for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Equity in the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC), and an Adjunct Professor in Sociology at Carleton University (Ottawa). She completed a PhD in Sociology (York University, Toronto) and a post-doctoral fellowship on health services reform and equity. She has worked in public health and health equity for almost 30 years, with a focus on marginalized populations (e.g. street-involved sex trade workers, street-involved youth, LGBTQ2S and Indigenous populations). Since joining PHAC in 2007, Beth has led an interdisciplinary team devoted to strengthening evidence on social determinants of health. In 2017 she and her team received the Dr. Andrés Petrasovits Award for Excellence in Public Health (PHAC) for leading the Pan-Canadian Health Inequalities Reporting Initiative, which aims to strengthen the measurement, monitoring, and reporting of health inequalities in Canada.
