A global health leader before joining the UN in 2002, Catherine Hankins is now Professor of Public and Population Health, McGill University; Honorary Professor, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine; and Assistant Professor/Deputy Director (Science), Amsterdam Institute for Global Health and Development. Until 2012, she led UNAIDS’ scientific knowledge translation team in Geneva, focused on ensuring ethical and participatory HIV trial conduct, convening mathematical modelling teams, and supporting implementation of proven HIV prevention. She spearheaded UNAIDS’ work on women in clinical trials and led development of UNAIDS/AVAC Good Participatory Practice guidelines and WHO’s GPP for Emerging Pathogen Trials (2012). She chairs European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership Scientific Advisory Committee and the USA National Institutes of Health HIV Prevention Trials Network Scientific Advisory Group. She is Scientific Chair of the annual Africa INTEREST conference. She was named to the Order of Canada in 2013.
