Amrita Daftary is Associate Professor at the School of Global Health at York University. She uses qualitative and implementation science methods to tackle the social determinants of infectious diseases notably tuberculosis (TB) and HIV, in particular stigma. She works closely with affected communities in South Africa, India and Canada, among other settings, and also works with global actors to inform TB policy. She is an advocate for global social change. Amrita has a Master in Public Health and postdoctoral training from Columbia University, and a PhD in Public Health from the University of Toronto. Her primary training was in pharmacy. She holds adjunct appointments at the Centre for the AIDS Programme of Research in South Africa (CAPRISA), University of KwaZulu Natal, and Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto. In 2020, Amrita founded SSHIFTB, a global network of scholars and advocates addressing tuberculosis through the social sciences.
