Hon Jane Philpott launches WHD 2016

The 2016 WHD campaign in Canada was launched at an inaugural Parliamentary Breakfast, co-hosted by the Honorable Jane Philpott, Minister of Health. More than 65 organizations hosted a record number of more than 150 WHD events across the country, including health fairs, vaccination and testing, travelling road shows, ...

free barbeques, guest speakers including Members of Parliament, WHD Mayoral Proclamations, workshops, pancake breakfasts, information booths/displays, entertainment, activities for youth such as poster contests and henna tattooing, raffles, carnivals, games and more.

There were more than 200 people tested for hepatitis B and C at the day of the event across the country.

CSIH hosted Canada’s largest WHD event in Ottawa, which drew more than 550 people and offered testing as well as information about prevention and treatment options.

The media coverage for the 2016 WHD Canada campaign reached millions of Canadians in both official languages. In total there were more than 50 articles published in both English and French. In addition to the extensive print, TV and radio coverage, WHD Canada 2016 was trending on social media as well. 

Many Canadian landmarks were lit in Hep C colours for the event, including the CN Tower, Parliament buildings and Niagara Falls.
