Barbara Astle, PhD, RN, FCAN is a Professor and Director for the Master of Science in Nursing Program. She has contributed to numerous global and planetary health educational, research and policy initiatives at the local, national, and global levels. She has served on various national and global organizations including past Chair for the Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CUGH) Competency Subcommittee, and the Canadian Association for Global Health (CAGH). She is Chair of the Canadian Association for Schools of Nursing (CASN) Planetary Health Interest Group; Member of the National Workgroup on Planetary Health and Societal Well-being; Canadian Association of Nurses for the Environment (CANE), and American Association of Nurses for the Environment (AANE). She co-developed the first Canadian tri-university interdisciplinary graduate global health course applying equity-centred principles; Global Health Competency Toolkit; and the transdisciplinary Planetary Health Education Framework (PHEF). Her program of research focuses on health equity, human rights and albinism building upon her work in global / planetary health. She is an inductee in the Canadian Women in Global Health, which recognizes the achievements of established leaders in global health, founding member for Canadian Women in Global Health (CWIGH) Steering Committee in Canada, and Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Nursing (FCAN).
