
Barbara Astle
About
Dr. Barbara Astle is an Associate Professor & Director of the MSN program at Trinity Western University. She has contributed to numerous global health educational initiatives and served as CUGH Chair to generate a global health competency toolkit. She led the development of a global health course as core curriculum for nursing students, and co-developed an interdisciplinary graduate course based on the CCGHR principles for global health research. Astle co-leads a program of research on human rights and albinism in Tanzania, South Africa and Ghana. She served as the CSIH Board Chair from 2010-12. In recognition of her work in global health education, teaching and mentorship, she was recipient of the Excellence in Education Nursing Award by ARNBC in 2017. Dr. Astle is also a founding member for the Women in Global Health Canada Chapter in 2020. She is a role model and mentor, often co-presenting with graduate students at global health conferences, and serves as a consultant.
