Scholarships & Awards
Each year, at the Canadian Conference on Global Health, we come together to honour and celebrate the remarkable contributions made by individuals within our global health community. These prestigious awards serve as a testament to the unwavering commitment and exceptional achievements of a select few. Through their outstanding efforts, they inspire and drive positive change in the field of global health.
Elizabeth & Donald Hillman Award

The Hillman Award was created in 2001 to honour Drs. Elizabeth and Donald Hillman’s commitments to students, and their participation in global health. Dr. Elizabeth (Liz) Hillman and Dr. Donald Hillman were dedicated Canadian pediatricians who devoted their lives to providing medical care and improving medical education for mothers and children across multiple continents, including underserved regions.
The award is presented to the student who delivers the most outstanding poster presentation at the annual Canadian Conference on Global Health. As a token of appreciation, the winner is awarded a certificate and a prize of $250, recognizing their remarkable achievement and encouraging their ongoing contributions to global health.
A judging panel made up of two to four CAGH members will evaluate posters based on the following process:
Step 1: Poster Review
All posters are evaluated based on a 50-point scale using the following categories, with 10 points each:
- Overall coherence of summary
- Clear description of methodology, objectives, and results of the work
- Significance of lessons learned or results
- Potential impact for the field of global health
Step 2: Final Evaluation
The top five posters from the initial review will move on to the final evaluation.
The judging criteria for the final evaluation are as follows, with each category assigned a percentage:
- Quality of presentation - 10%: Assessing the style and clarity of the presentation, including the quality and readability of the poster.
- Use of stakeholders in design and implementation - 30%: Evaluating the extent to which key stakeholders are engaged in the work.
- Quality of work - 20%
- Importance to global health - 20%: Considering the impact of the work on global health.
- Enthusiasm, lessons learned, or demonstrated personal growth - 20%
The award recipient will be determined based on the score at the final evaluation.
